Just when relations were starting to get cozy...the US Air Force suddenly canceled a $355 mn order for 20 Brasil made A-29 Super Tucano turbine planes...over 'documentation problems.'
It's seen as a slap to the face of President Dilma Rousseff.
The planes were to be used by the Afghan army...and the contract was eventually estimated to be worth $1 billion.
Complicating the issue is an outstanding bid to supply Brasil with 36 new fighter jets...worth $4 billion initially.
France is rumored to be Brasil's choice...and not the USA's Boeing.
Next month Rousseff is scheduled for her first presidential visit to Washington.
