In an effort to reduce greenhouse emissions...Mexico City has closed its main rubbish dump...Bordo Poniente.
Bordo was described as one of the world's biggest open-air landfills...with more than 12,000 tons of waste each day.
Some rubbish is buried more than 17m/56 feet deep.
The closure will displace hundreds of scavengers.
The government said it will help them find formal jobs in waste processing.
