After a 2 week hiatus...student-led protests over education reforms...returned to Santiago and other cities Tuesday...with the second day turning violent again.
An estimated 25,000-100,000 people...students but also members of labor and teachers' groups...marched peacefully at first in the downtown.
But hundreds of masked demonstrators ended the demonstration by launching stones and alcohol cocktails at police...and setting barricades and tires on fire.
At least 373 have been arrested since Tuesday throughout the country.
In 2 suburbs, 8 police were injured.
The government also announced new strict security measures after protesters burnt a bus.
"Violence doesn't help anyone, it hurts us," said Camilo Ballesteros, who criticized the government "for its inability to identify the small group" of troublemakers that he said was responsible for the unrest.
