With his popularity hovering around the 30% level...and hundreds of protesters camped out in front of his palace...President Evo Morales finally threw in the towel...and cancelled a controversial Amazon road project.
Thousands of indigena protesters marched for 2 months and 370 miles from the Amazon to La Paz...to show their opposition to the road...and were even violently attacked by police along the way.
Two ministers departed Morales' cabinet because of the attacks.
Funded and built by Brasil...the indigena claimed the road would encourage illegal settlement and deforestation in the rainforest. The protesters are not members of Morales tribe.
