Just 50 jaguars are believed to still live around Iguazu Falls...the southern limit of the cat's range.
Since 2003...Argentine scientists have been monitoring the jaguar population there.
Jaguars are the third largest cat...after the lion and tiger.
The World Wildlife Fund estimates that 15,000 big cats remain as deforestation deprives them of prey and makes them more vulnerable to hunters.
Jaguars were important in the mythology of the Mayan and Aztec indigena.
