Gunmen invaded a crowded Monterrey bingo casino, doused its interior with gasoline and ignited a fire that trapped many terrified, mostly older female patrons inside bathrooms where they had gone to hide.
The preliminary death toll at the Casino Royale, located in an upscale neighborhood...is now 52.
Many of the victims died of asphyxiation; many emergency exits were also found blocked.
The casino's owners reportedly refused to make extortion/cuota payments to the notoriously brutal Los Zetas narcos.
It is the 3rd casino business attacked recently in northern Mexico.
President Calderon called it an "aberrant act of terror."
He declared 3 days of mourning for the victims...and offered a $2.4m reward for the capture of those responsible for the deaths.
