Can you imagine life without a coffee maker, toaster or microwave?
That's been the norm in Cuba...for years.
Small electrical appliances have been banned at least since 2003...under Fidel Castro's "energy revolution"...because they were considered energy suckers.
Before that...they were always just very expensive.
In fact, microwaves are rarer than snowflakes in La Habana.
Some of that may soon change under President Raul Castro's reforms.
Small appliances like air conditioners, electric stoves and grills will go on sale gradually.
But, from my experience there, those appliances still won't be cheap...probably about 3-4 times normal USA prices...with only Chinese brands like Haier or cheaper knockoffs available.
