Currently leading by 6% in polling for the May presidential run-off, nationalist Ollanta Humala claims that if he wins over Keiko Fujimori, he will strengthen relations with Brasil, Chile, the USA, Unasur and won't join with Hugo Chavez's ALBA.
“We have no intentions of joining ALBA or any other mechanism at this moment, but rather reinforce the integration process with Unasur and consolidate the Andean community of nations/CAN said Humala.
Humala is considered an ultra-nationalist supported by Chavez in 2006 but recently has toned down his leftist rhetoric for this election.
22% of Peruvians are still undecided.
AND: Almost 200 years after being written, Peru may get a more upbeat national anthem to reflect its growing economic prospects.
The anthem problem first surfaced in 2009, when the armed forces were told to sing the less downbeat sixth verse in place of the first.
