COLOMBIA: Oil Exports To USA Growing; Rubber Tapping Sees Explosive Growth.

LATIMES/ C.KRAUL/

Colombia is now 10th among oil exporters to the USA.
It shipped an average of 365,000 barrels a day of sulfur sour oil to Houston refineries last year...up 32% from the 276,000 barrels exported daily in 2009 as imports from Mexico and Venezuela slip.
And it led the developing world in percentage increase in production in 2010 from the previous year...up 12%.

AND: While Southeast Asia is the source of 94% of the world's rubber supply, a rapidly escalating price is encouraging new growth in Colombia and South America.
Rubber prices have doubled since 2007 to about $2.25 per pound along with soil management techniques.
Rubber tree plantings in Colombia has increased tenfold over the last decade to 25,000 acres and could triple by 2016. Last year's harvest of 3,200 tons of rubber  may reach 35,000 tons by 2020.
