Former president Leonid Kuchma, 72, is under investigation in the 2000 murder of opposition journalist Georgiy Gongadze.
Gongadze's web newspaper was highly critical of Kuchma, who was president from 1994 to 2005.
Gongadze disappeared from Kiev in 2000. His headless body was found six weeks later.
