CHILE: Filmmaker Guzmán Studies The Atacama Desert.

NYD.NEWS/ L. BEALE

Filmmaker Patricia Guzmán's new documentary, "Nostalgia for the Light," is set in the Atacama Desert.
It examines the desert's anthropology thru preserved mummies of pre-Columbian Indians; its politics because the desert was a burial ground for hundreds murdered by the Pinochet regime; and its remarkably clear skies, home to some of Earth's largest telescopes.
