Chile's tourist industry has suffered a 5% to 10% decline in revenues as its peso continued to grow stronger vs the usd and foreigners worried about earthquakes and tsunamis.
Officials report that this year the number of cruise vessels calling in ports has dropped 48% vs 2010, from 62,000 visitors last year to perhaps 30,000.
AND: But bad news for Chile is good news for Argentina. It reported a 27.1% increase in foreign tourists in 2010 vs 2009 with 25.9 % more dollars spent.
