BRASIL: Rio's New Police Chief Is...A Woman; 19 Goias Vigilante Squad Police Arrested.

   Rio's Civil Police Allan Turnowski (pictured) was abruptly replaced by veteran Martha Rocha.
    An official says a phone recording revealed Turnowski tipping off an inspector to a widespread investigation by the Federal Police into police corruption in Rio.
    Rocha, 51, is a 27-year veteran of the Civil Police and is the fifth Civil Police chief in the last five years.

 AND:   Nineteen police in Goias were arrested for belonging to a death squad which allegedly killed at least 40 people. Officials said group, active for 10 years, often staged shoot-outs to cover up executions.
