Presidential front-runner Luis Castaneda's campaign is under a dark cloud after allegations that one of his running mates paid to be on his ticket for the 10 April election.
A newspaper reported that Carmen Rosa Nunez de Acuna paid 500,000 soles ( $178,500 USD) to become one of Castaneda's two picks for Peru's two vice presidential posts.
The centrist former mayor of Lima, Castaneda is nearly tied for first in polls with former President Alejandro Toledo and Keiko Fujimori, the daughter of jailed former President Alberto Fujimori.
