David Romo (pictured), the leader of the Santa Muerte cult has been detained on suspicion of participating in the kidnapping ring El Aztlán.
Drug traffickers support the cult because some believe its female "saint" protects them from death and arrest.
Romo is one of nine suspects placed under a form of house arrest for 30 days pending investigation.
