Alfonso Portillo, 58, Guatemala's president from 2000 to 2004, is being tried in Guatemala City on charges of embezzling $15million usd from the defense ministry.
Former Defense Minister Eduardo Arevalo and former Finance Minister Manuel Maza are also on trial.
Prosecutors say defense officials sent the money to personal bank accounts in the US and Europe.
