ARGENTINA: Thieves Tunnel Into Buenos Aires Bank, Loot Safety Deposit Boxes.

DAILY MAIL/

Over the New Year's weekend, police say three thieves  emerged from a sophisticated 100-foot-long (30-meter-long) tunnel dug from a rented empty dental office and under the Belgrano branch of Banco Provincia.
The tunnel had ventilation, lights and reinforcement.
The ladrones first rented the office space in June.
Police report that the robbers spent the long weekend emptying some 140 of 1,408 safety deposit boxes. The robbery wasn't discovered until the bank re-opened on Monday.
Many Argentines started putting much of their savings in safety deposit boxes after the 2001 financial disaster when many had their bank savings wiped-out.
No exact estimate of the amount stolen is available but each account is reportedly insured for $50,000 USD for a total of up to $7 million USD.
