VENEZUELA: New WikiLeaks Cables Claim Oil Giants Are Squeezing Chavez After Nationalizations; Dismiss Nuclear Ambitions.

GUARDIAN/ Rory Carroll /
New embassy memos describe Venezuela's economic fiasco and say some of Chávez's key allies – Argentina, Brasil and Cuba – are concerned about the direction. "President Chávez, for his part, is acutely aware of the impact the country's general economic trajectory has had on his popularity," says one cable.
ANOTHER cable dismisses Chavez's nuclear ambitions, describing the government as too shambolic and broken to exploit uranium or build reactors.
