GUATEMALA: Vigilante Violence Rising; Teen Beaten And Burned by Mob.
LAHT/ Fourteen people have died from vigilante justice there so far this year, while 30 others survived with injuries. The latest to suffer from the mob was an 18-year-old man beaten and burned to death in Guat City because neighbors suspected him of shooting an El Incienso vecino. More than 300 lynchings have occurred in Guatemala since 1996. Bus shootings and fire bombings, because of extortion attempts, are common. Police seem unable to cope with the increasing violence.
