Cuba will terminate at least half a million state employees by mid-2011 but also reduce restrictions on private enterprise to help them find new jobs.
During a televised speech, Raul Castro said as many 1 million workers — about one in five — may be redundant. He said layoffs will start immediately and continue through the first half 2011.
