BRASIL: Clown's Quest For Congress May Be Derailed By Literacy Law.

AP/ BRADLEY BROOKS/    A clown called Tiririca, which means "grumpy" in colloquial Portuguese, is running for congress. Polls have him winning more votes for the lower house than any other candidate, perhaps more than 1 million. His slogans include, "It can't get any worse," and "What does a federal deputy do? Truly, I don't know. But vote for me and you'll find out."
But Tiririca, whose real name is Francisco Silva, could be tossed from office because of a law requiring lawmakers to read and write. A magazine revealed that he is illiterate like 10% of the population.
