COSTA RICA: Uproar Over U.S. Armada Confounds Officials.
G.POST/ ALEX LEFF/ The public relations disaster after the U.S. request was granted for permission to dock 46 warships and 7,000 military personnel in Costa Rica for drug interdiction...has puzzled officials. Really. “We are not sure why there is this uproar,” said U.S. Ambassador Anne Slaughter Andrew. There are many critical skeptics of U.S. motives including politicians, pacifists and student groups proud of their country’s six decades without a military.
