A surprizing new documentary called "Godfather" ran on Russian TV. It portrays Belarussian President Aleksandr Lukashenko as a Hitler and Stalin-loving tyrant who kills political opponents, silences journalists and rigs elections. The broadcast clearly illustrates the propaganda war that has recently erupted between Russia and Belarus, republics once so close they considered reuniting. Many issues now divide them. For eg., Belarus failed to recognize the two separatist Georgian enclaves of Abkhazia and South Ossetia. “He received a huge amount of money, with which he was in part able to support the economy of Belarus, its economic growth and the well-being of his people, without giving anything in return,” said Russian politician Vladimir Ryzhkov. “It seems the Russian leadership decided that that’s it.”
