ARGENTINA: Glacier Protection Bill Could Doom Barrick's Pascua Lama Gold Mine.
REUTERS/ Luis Andres Henao/ A proposed bill to protect glaciers and the fresh water supplied by them-- by banning mining in ice zones-- could hinder a new Barrick gold mine, shutter some projects and slow investment. The law would make it expensive --perhaps impossible -- for Barrick Gold to develop Pascua Lama, a mega-gold find on the Argentina-Chile border.
