VENEZUELA: Chavez Feud With Church Leaders Makes Some Catholics Uneasy.
CANADIANPRESS/ In the past week, President Hugo Chavez and a Catholic leader have exchanged words. Chavez said that Christ would whip church leaders for lying and Cardinal Jorge Urosa responded he was right to warn the Vatican that Chavez is curbing freedoms. The hubbub is making many Catholics there uneasy. "I don't like the insults that Chavez hurled against the cardinal, but I don't like seeing the Church getting involved in politics either," said churchgoer Amanda Ortiz. "Both sides are losing respect for each other." Chavez served as an altar boy and says he remains a Catholic.
