ROMANIA: EU Warns About Its Corruption "Shortcomings" While Praising Bulgaria.
BLOOM/ Disturbed about corruption in Romania and Bulgaria, the EU has issued warnings that resulted in some probes of cabinet ministers, businessmen and lawmakers. But Romania, unlike Bulgaria, has not convicted a senior politician, except for minor corruption cases involving mayors and police officers. Nevertheless, the EU commission did not impose a deadline for Romania to make progress or threaten to withhold funds. While Bulgaria has embraced reform efforts and achieved important results, Romania has lost momentum,” the European Commission said in a report. For Romania, the report shows “important shortcomings in its efforts to achieve progress.”(Foto of T.Basescu)
