GUARDIAN U.K./ Former paramilitary members are given shorter prison sentences if they help in seeking the remains of the disappeared. More than 31,200 Colombians were disappeared by the paramilitaries in the decade and a half when they controlled much of the country. "This is the last thing I thought we would be doing," said a para aka "Aguila" helping the team to dig where he thought one of his victims was buried. "We just buried them as quickly as we could and forgot about it." Since the program began in 2006, 3,269 bodies have been found in 2,694 graves, some deep, some shallow, nearly always unmarked.
