Heavy rains and ensuing mudslides from the season's first tropical storm, Agatha, has killed 18 so far in Central America and southern Mexico. In Guatemala, 69,000 people in have been evacuated and rivers in its south were flooding or close to it. Guatemala City reported 4.3 inches (10.8 centimeters) of rain had fallen in 12 hours, the most since 1949. El Salvador declared the highest level “red alert," with at least 140 landslides reported.
