CUBA: Fretting About The Gulf Oil Gusher.
REUTERS/ "Cuba, like all the countries in this area, is worried about the situation in the Gulf," said park director Osmani Borrego Fernandez. The fear is that Gulf currents will sweep the oil southwards onto the coast where coral reefs and mangroves are breeding grounds for fish and endangered species like sea turtles, sharks and manatees. The oil could also damage important beach-centered tourism, which brought in more than $2 billion in 2009, about 20% of foreign exchange income.
