CHILE: Political Polarization Complicates Transition.
NYTIMES: After the ruinous effects of the 8.8 earthquake, Chile’s political stability is being tested. “This country has had a low tolerance for polarization,” said expert Christopher Sabatini. “This crisis and the cacophony of complaints will test that." Political commentator Raul Sohr Biss says “This crisis has moved the country decidedly from the center to right. When you see a country that once lived under a military dictatorship applauding the sight of troops in the street, you know there’s been a dramatic political shift.”
