ARGENTINA: Beef Prices Up 30-40%; Cristina Blames Farmers, They Blame Her.
MERCOPRESS/ The good old days of cheap and plentiful Argentine meat seems to be ending for the world's top beef eaters. With meat prices up 30-40% recently, President Kirchner is blaming the farming sector for profit gouging; they, in turn, term her remarks “offensive” and blame the government and its “anti-productive policies." A leading farmer said “my producers have lost their livestock and have had to give away their cows due to droughts and because someone from the government decided what the highest prices would be and forced them to sell their cattle.”
