BRASIL: Sugarcane Slavery Persists.

BLOOMBERG/

The world’s biggest sugarcane processor, Cosan, was included on a government list of companies with workers toiling in slave-like conditions.
The government suspended all loans to the company and Petrobras may stop buying ethanol from the company after ministry found and “liberated” 42 Cosan workers in conditions similar to slavery.
163 other employers are also on the ministry’s “blacklist,” which is updated every six months.
