The Peruvian government is asking for a “historical pardon” from Afro-Peruvian people for abuses and discrimination against them from colonial times to the present day. The government also regrets that racist attacks still continue against Afro-Peruvians. The number of Afro-Peruvian citizens is estimated at between 8-10 % of Peru’s total population of 28 million people.
