Over the past weekend, winds provided 53% of Spain's total electricity needs for several hours. With unusually high winds, Spain's network of windfarms provided the equivalent of 11 nuclear power stations' worth of electricity into the national grid. Spain has the world's third largest array of wind turbines, after the United States and Germany.
