COLOMBIA REPORTS/
Under the recently signed 10-year deal, the U.S. military will have access to military bases and also be able to use major international civilian airports. Plus, US personnel and defense contractors will have diplomatic immunity.
President Alvaro Uribe claims the pact will aid Colombia from drugs gangs and left-wing rebel groups. But opposition senator Gustavo Petro, of the left-wing PDA party, calls the deal a virtual U.S. occupation of Colombia.
