Poland's Sports minister, Miroslaw Drzewiecki, tendered his resignation after his name appeared on transcripts in connection with an anticorruption investigation with the code name Operation Blackjack.
He said he resigned because he didn't want the scandal to be used against Prime Minister Donald Tusk and his Civic Platform party’s government.
The new law is intended to raise taxes on the gambling industry to help cover the costs of the European soccer championships, which Poland will host along with Ukraine in 2012.
